The Happening

There is something about M. Night Shyamalan that draws me to his movies. So when I saw the adverts and trailers of his latest movie - The Happening, I knew I had to watch it.
On Friday, 13th when it was released, I planned to watch the first show at the nearest theater that was screening it. The show was to begin at 2pm and it was already 1 when I finally decided that I am going to watch it. Messages to friends requesting company were understandably replied in negative on grounds of extreme spontaneity of the plan. At just a few minutes to 2 I reached the theater. This would be my first First-Day-First-Show movie and sixth that I would be watching alone in a theater.
I will purposely skip details so that this doesn't become a spoiler for those who are willing to watch it.
The movie opens with a scene at a park in New York where people are busy with their early morning walks. Soon a gust of wind blows and the series of activities that actually define the movie begins. Basically, the movie is about this set of events that starts spreading in all of the north-east America and the way people get killed due to it. People try to escape from the places affected by The Happening but eventually get killed because it is too late and it spreads everywhere.
What appears to be a terrorist attack in the beginning is later on ruled out by scientists and is given an ecological reason. It is a typical Night Shyamalan movie, with no conclusive end. The reason for The Happening, till the very end remains a mystery.
On a scale of 5, I would rate it at 3.5. It is a one time watch for people who like movies of such suspense and thriller genre.
Signing out...
